MEET THE WIGGINS
High school sweethearts Chelcie and Alvero Wiggins, are parents to four beautiful children. A lover of basketball, a dinosaur expert, a parkour master, and a super star. Alvero has spent his life dedicated to helping others. He is an active and positive member of his community. Over the past 10 years he has worked with the youth organizations Hope Blooms and LOVE NS. Chelcie is working to complete her degree in Medical Administration at NSCC.
In June of 2018, Alvero was diagnosed with kidney disease. He began his battle with kidney failure, which requires dialysis for 9-10 hours a day. He did this from home while waiting for a transplant. In 2019 his doctor put him on mandatory medical leave from work. The Wiggins began living in an unsafe and unhealthy environment. The unsanitary conditions were especially dangerous to Alvero. He requires a sanitary environment to complete his dialysis.

A CONNECTION
Sarah McLaren begin to seek out a home ownership opportunity for the Wiggins. She invited people to to join her, and so we did. A Home for Everyone, joined Sarah's efforts in February 2021. Our founder, Brenda MacKenzie found herself uniquely connected to their story. Like Alvero, she was battling kidney failure. We combined our resources with the $100,000 Sarah had already raised. Together, we were able to give the Wiggins the gift of a safe and secure home to call their own in June of 2021.
Many committed people were a part of making home ownership a reality for the Wiggins. Lawyers, plumbers, electricians, contractors, and painters assisted us in getting their home ready. We added heat pumps, updated wiring and changed flooring to make the house low maintenance and efficient. Chelcie and Alvero were active in the selection processes, and created a house that matched their dreams of a home.
Community outreach was overwhelming. We were able to use additional fundraising efforts to provide a stipend for the next two+ years. This will allow Chelcie to finish her program, and give the Wiggins time to succeed at stabilizing their income.
